id say "art" (whatever that is) is mostly an idea , like 75% idea . when you see "art" (whatever that is) you (i) always see the "excecution"
and thats great like i mean thats the final product , but my point is that the final product is only the realization of the "idea" , the "excecution" is the result of an "idea" of "art" "excecuted" to become the "final product" .
think of it this way , if you could only change one thing about an "artwork" , what would have the biggest impact? changing the color pallet? the medium? the artist? no , none of those things control the outcome of the "art" more than the initial idea that lead to its creation .
in an essay i was forced to write , i looked at a famous drawing and said : "the artist was trying to capture the way animals see the world" now i have no idea if that is true (its just a hypothesis) but lets assume it is . lets assume the "idea" for this "artwork" was "draw as i think animals see" .
once the "artist" has a cool idea like that , all thats left is to create the damned thing . now that the idea is established , creating the "excecution" is all thats left .
and id wager that anyone could create a cool "artwork" given that initial "idea" as prompt . i bet your version of "draw as i (you) think animals see" would be
very different from your neighbors version , but what im saying is that it would only be upto 25% different .
ie. 75% of the appeal of any given "artwork" comes from the "idea" .
i say all this having just completed an undergrad at an established "art" school ; ive found myself struggling with the notion of "idea" vs "excecution" these past four years . because "art" school provides students with "ideas" .
how can the "art" i created for my proffessor have any "artistic" value when the "idea" came from an assignment outline? some students realize this and make lazy , unispired "art" ; other students realize and try to go beyond the scope of the assignment . regardless , we all wanted a good grade , so we all made "art" from the teachers "idea" . (ex. above (^) image was created from the prompt/"idea" "proportions and distortions as a charcoal drawing")
since i cant pass my assignments off as my own true expression , ive placed them all (some) here . its probably more then they deserve .
goodbye art school , goodbye toronto .
